Itinerary

Bagdogra - Gangtok

On arrival meet our representative at the airport and drive to Gangtok. The journey follows along the Teesta river until the checkpoint at Rangpo. From here the road winds up the hill to the capital of Sikkim. Upon arrival check into the hotel and if time permits take a stroll through MG Marg pedestrian boulevard.

In Gangtok

After breakfast, drive up hills on the crest to visit Enchey monastery – affiliated to Nyingmapa order of Himalayan Buddhism. After the visit drive down the hill towards Ranka Monastery, on the way visit Banjhakri falls and continue to Ranka monastery. Ranka monastery is one of the most wonderful monasteries in Sikkim with great scenic views. After the visit continue our journey to the famous Rumtek monastery, the seat of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is the largest in Sikkim, and a replica of its Karmapa’s monastery in Tsurphu, Tibet. On the way back we can pay a visit to the Do Drul Chorten – a massive Stupa amidst 108 prayer wheels.

Drive to Darjeeling

After breakfast drive down the hill and cross over the border to Darjeeling. The drive is quite scenic with lush green vegetation, tea gardens and interesting roadside villages. Upon arrival in Darjeeling check into the hotel and wait for the rest of the members to arrive or take a leisurely walk around the Chourastha.

In Darjeeling

After breakfast, we begin sightseeing mostly on foot. Visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute(closed Thursday), one of the premier mountaineering institutes in the world, whose first field director was Tenzin Norgay Sherpa. Among others, watch elusive and shy Red Panda in Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (closed Thursday). Snow Leopard Breeding Centre, houses highly elusive cat that prowl on the Himalayan highlands. Not so far, on a walking distance is Tibetan Self-help centre(closed Sunday), it’s emporium boast of highest quality Tibetan handicrafts. World famous tea is synonymous with Darjeeling so we will visit a tea estate that produces one, on the way back. In the afternoon we can take a joy ride in the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which makes en route stop at Batasia Loop. Visit Dali Goemba(monastery and Japanese temple)

A day’s hike in Darjeeling

Early morning(6a.m.) drive to Dhotrey via Manebhanjyang. It takes about 2-3 hrs to reach Dhotrey, packed breakfast at Dhotrey, after breakfast we begin our trek to Tonglu, it is an uphill trail through dense forest of rhododendrons. It takes about 3 hours over 6 kilometers to reach Tonglu, situated at an altitude of 3087mts provides magnificent views of the Kanchenjunga range(subject to weather condition) and even Mt. Everest at the far background. From Tongluproceed towards Tumling which is a further 2kms hike, our lunch spot. Tumling too offers a wonderful view of the Kanchenjunga range. After lunch we proceed towards the last leg of our trek towards Chitrey. It\'s a downhill hike passing through small villages like Meghma and Lamaydhura. At Chitrey we will board the waiting vehicle and return to Darjeeling for overnight.

Departure

After breakfast drive down the hill to Bagdogra airport for your departure flight.
